The Crate Escape

FAQs

What do I need from my vet?

We require that all puppies be at least 4 months old. Dogs over 6 months old must be spayed or neutered. We need proof of rabies, distemper, and bordetella vaccines. We also require proof of a negative fecal exam from within the past 6 months, and a copy of your town dog license.

Should I bring anything for my dog?

Daycare: Dogs should be fed before and/or after daycare. If you have a puppy under 9 mos old who still eats 3 times a day, you may pack his or her lunch in a Ziploc baggie labeled with their name.

Boarding: We recommend you bring your own food for your dog. Please pack just what you need for your stay.  Portion out each meal in a ziploc baggie.  If you prefer to use ours, we feed a premium pork-based food by Blue Seal at an additional charge. Everyone is provided with a comfortable orthopedic cot that keeps them elevated off the ground and dry. We do not accept any bedding, blankets, bowls, rawhide or toys from home; however, we offer many sleepover “extras” to make your pet’s stay more comfortable.

What is the new dog evaluation process?

We reserve the right to refuse service to any dog who we don’t think will be a good fit at our facility.    All dogs must come in for an Evaluation Day prior to scheduling any daycare or boarding.  Evaluation Day's are scheduled M-F with drop off between 6:30am-7:00am and pickup after 12:00pm (dogs are welcome to stay whole day if they do well).  During that time we will slowly introduce your dog to several dogs, eventually integrating them into a group.  The Evaluation day is $40 and is not refundable.  Any dog who has not been here in over 6 months must repeat the evaluation process.

On occasion, if a new dog is shy/nervous on their first day we may recommend additional daycare days before we take a boarding reservation.

What if my dog hasn't been in a while?

If it has been more than 6 months since your last daycare or boarding visit, you will need to repeat the evaluation process.

Don't all dogs like to play?

Dog sociability is not a fixed trait.  As dogs mature, they will quite often become less social and tolerant.   These changes can happen between the ages of 2-3 years of age.   Think of it this way, you may have loved to go to parties and be social when you were younger, but now that you're getting older you'd rather stay home with a few close friends.  Dogs are the same way, it is entirely normal and OK!

It is our responsibility at The Crate Escape to set your dog up for success.  We recognize that not every dog is suited for all- day-play, and as a policy, we don't force it on them.  If we do not feel that your dog will benefit from being in a social environment, or has grown out of it, we will provide recommendations for other facilities that may be a better fit.

We do not offer a boarding option for dogs who prefer to be alone.

Can I pick up my dog on a Sunday?

Yes, we offer pick up times from 8:00 am – 9:00 am or 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Because of our abbreviated hours, we do not charge an additional daycare fee for the afternoon pickup on Sunday.

What time is checkout?

Boarding dogs may be checked out anytime during our business hours. If you pick-up after 12:00 pm, you will be charged for a half day of daycare. We do not charge an additional daycare fee for the afternoon pickup on Sunday, or if your dog is being groomed on pickup day.

What if I can’t pick up my dog by closing time, do you have after hours pickup?

We do not offer any after-hours pickups. If you are not here by closing time, your dog will be fed and put to bed for the night. You can pick them up the following morning and you will be charged an overnight fee.

Does my dog get to play on Sunday?

Yes, although we are closed for daycare on Sunday we come in to feed and give potty breaks to all the dogs. They get 2 hours of playtime in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon while we clean and disinfect their runs, and prep their meals.

Will my dog get hurt or sick?

Our main concern at The Crate Escape is your dog’s health and safety. The playgroups are supervised 100% of the time. Our staff does their best to prevent any altercations before they happen. While injuries are not common, dogs will be dogs. They sometimes play rough and use their teeth. Ear nicks and scratches are the most common injury. Our staff is trained in pet first aid and will clean and bandage small wounds as needed. In the event that your dog has sustained more than a superficial injury, we will contact you and transport your dog to the vet.

All dogs who attend daycare and boarding need to be fully vaccinated for rabies, distemper, bordetella, canine influenza, as well as a negative fecal exam from within the past 6 months.  Despite the rigorous vaccine requirements, illness can still happen when multiple dogs are in a social setting.  The most common being upper respiratory infections (commonly known as kennel cough, and very similar to a human cold), and giaradia (a parasite that can be passed through stool).  We always immediately notify our clients when something is going around, and ask that you let us know if your pet has become ill after being in our care as well.  Keeping sick pets home is crucial in maintaining a healthy environment for everyone.

What happens if my dog gets sick?

If a dog becomes ill while in the care of The Crate Escape, our staff will assess the situation. We will contact you, and transport your dog to the vet if necessary. We will act as liaison between you or your emergency contact and the vet to help ensure your dog receives the best care possible.

Can I visit the facility?

We are happy to give tours of our facility. The best time to visit during the week is between 9am - 3:30 pm. You are welcome to stop by anytime between 10:30 am – 3:30 pm on Saturdays. We do not offer tours on Sundays.

Do you walk the dogs?

All the dogs staying with us participate in daycare during the day, and get plenty of exercise playing with their friends. We do offer off-site leash walks at an additional charge.

Is there anyone here at night?

The staff does a final walk at 6:00 pm to make sure everyone has eaten and is settled in for the evening. We have found that by having a staff member stay throughout the night the dogs are less inclined to sleep, and are unable to get the rest they need to participate in the next day’s activities.  Our facility is equipped with a sprinkler system, alarm system, and closed circuit video monitoring.

What if I need to cancel my reservation?

We do have a 48 hour cancellation policy. If you cancel your boarding reservation within 48 hours of your check-in date, you will be charged a cancellation fee up to the full amount of all cancelled nights.

Can my dogs stay together?

Yes, two dogs from the same household may share a room. Please let us know when making your reservation and we will be happy to apply a discounted rate for the second dog.  If they must be fed separately, the 1 Dog rate will apply for each dog.

How is your staff trained?

Bark All About It

We have been bringing Eli, our English Boston Bulldog, to The Crate Escape for almost 6 years for daycare a couple times a week, and also for overnight stays. Eli gets so excited when we tell him he is going to "daycare." The owner Chris and the rest of the staff are very friendly, and take the time to get to know the dogs. We are confident that Eli is in excellent hands when he is there.
